| Knowing
how to stay slim after a diet is very important.
It can be very frustrating to gain weight after a diet is finished
and can lead to yo-yo dieting. Yo-yo dieting is characterised by
weight loss followed by weight gain followed by weight loss etc.
A pattern of yo-yo dieting can lead to a loss of muscle and bone
density, kidney and gallstones and eating disorders.
It is important then that once you are slim that you stay that way.
Being slim has a number of benefits over being overweight or obese.
Being slim means that you will have more energy and stamina, increased
levels of confidence and self esteem, lower blood pressure and cholesterol
levels and you will be less likely to develop heart disease and
diabetes.
There are a number of things that you can do to keep your body shape
and stay healthy. Following a healthy eating plan is essential.
Obviously avoid fatty foods such as ice- cream, cheese and chips
as much as possible and eat as much fruit and vegetables.
Remember to drink plenty of water. Sometimes we mistake the messages
that our bodies send us. You may think that you are hungry but in
reality your body could be dehydrated. If you have a hunger pang
drink a glass of water before eating anything.
Spread your eating out through the day. Some researchers recommend
eating 5-6 smaller meals each day instead of 3 large ones. This
helps to control blood sugar levels and reduce snacking between
meals.
Make sure you take lots of exercise. This helps to build strong
bones and muscles and increases the metabolic rate. Exercising is
a great way of burning calories and helps you to keep sharp.
A proper program of diet/nutrition coupled with an exercise program
that builds lean muscle mass will lead help you to stay young and
lead to vibrant ageing.
